New Zealander Mitch Evans has achieved victory in the Jakarta ePrix in a vibrant race of great alternatives on a circuit with a different essence from other urban tracks in which Formula E competes. Despite starting on pole, Jean-Eric Vergne has had to settle for second position, since his final attacks on the Jaguar driver have had no effect. For his part, Edo Mortara has finished in third placefollowed by António Félix Da Costa and leader Stoffel Vandoorne.
Jean-Eric Vergne signed a good start to maintain the first position. The good start of Mitch Evans, who put António Félix Da Costa in trouble, made this task easier for the French rider. From behind, the first moments of the race passed with certain tranquility if it is left aside André Lotterer’s aggressive overtaking of Nyck de Vries. The Dutch fell to tenth position. However, the action stopped abruptly shortly after due to the presence of the Safety Car, since Oliver Rowland lost a wheel and it was in a compromised position.
On reboot, António Félix Da Costa braked too much and left the way clear for Mitch Evans to climb to second place. The Jaguar driver also managed this maneuver to perfection, as he ended up taking the lead when Jean-Eric Vergne’s first attack mode was activated. He also activated this mode of extra power António Félix Da Costa, which led him to lose position with Edo Mortara. Yes indeed, Mitch Evans fell to third place once he activated the ‘attack mode’since Mortara remained as the only pilot without spending his first activation.
This exchange of overtaking and activations of ‘attack mode’ served so that the leading group remained in five units, since from behind this ‘dance’ was much less clean. A) Yes, Vergne, Mortara, Evans, Da Costa and a Jake Dennis who was optimizing the energy of his car to keep up with the leaders escaped from Stoffel Vandoorne that even activated the ‘attack mode’ retaining sixth place. The gap between the top five and the overall leader led the Portuguese António Félix Da Costa to activate the ‘attack mode’ for the second time with half the race still to go.
In parallel, Edo Mortara unleashed his first ‘attack mode’, which made him fall to fourth position. Still, the Venturi pilot was quick to notice Jake Dennis, as was Da Costa himself. Movements in any case that created a small gap in the leading five and that allowed Stoffel Vandoorne to reach Dennis’ wake and overtake Andretti’s driver. in head, the script was repeated and while Jean-Eric Vergne activated the ‘attack mode’, Mitch Evans climbed to first place.
The end was the same and Jean-Eric Vergne regained the lead At the same time, the leading quintet -sextet by seconds- was reduced to four units, since Stoffel Vandoorne did not complete the passage through the slow activation zone of the ‘attack mode’ correctly and had to do it in two consecutive laps, which made him drop to seventh place. Jake Dennis couldn’t keep up either.. Although Vandoorne managed to climb to fifth place after beating Dennis himself and Pascal Wehrlein, the gap between both groups became three seconds.

Evans and Mortara activated the second ‘attack mode’ at the same time, which led Da Costa to use the FanBoost to defend himself from the Venturi pilot’s attacks. It was of little use to the pilot of DS Techeetah, since António Félix Da Costa ended up giving up at the push of Edo Mortara. in head, Mitch Evans managed to overtake Jean-Eric Vergne to become the new leader of the race. With the fastest race lap, the Jaguar Racing driver certified this position, achieving a little air on a Vergne determined to recover the lost place.
Entering the final stretch of the race with Stoffel Vandoorne’s failed attack, Fanboost through, on António Félix Da Costa for fourth place. And this way of extra power that fans give to certain pilots was not able to be decisive, since Jean-Eric Vergne could not take advantage of his activation, so Mitch Evans managed to retain the lead with its use. The last laps were full of tension under pressure from Jean-Eric Vergne and Edo Mortara leading the race. Nevertheless, there was no room for more position changes.
Mitch Evans thus conquered his third victory of the year, carving his name as the first winner of the Jakarta ePrix. Jean-Eric Vergne had to settle for second place, while Edo Mortara managed to get on the podium by finishing third. António Félix Da Costa managed to keep Stoffel Vandoorne under control to finish fourth, although it is true that the Mercedes EQ remains the category leader. Jake Dennis, Lucas Di Grassi, Pascal Wehrlein, Sam Bird and Sébastien Buemi completed the ‘top 10’with the last two benefiting from André Lotterer’s five-second penalty.
