Mitch Evans made history at the Rome ePrix after taking victory in both races of the event, something that had only been achieved to date by Nico Prost, Sam Bird and António Félix Da Costa. Not content with this, the Jaguar Racing driver hit the table in qualifying for the Monaco ePrix. With a spectacular lap in the grand final, Mitch Evans has achieved pole position in the streets of Monte Carlo after signing a 1:29.839 and beating Pascal Wehrlein by more than two tenths.
The first qualifying group ended with Stoffel Vandoorne in front after setting a time of 1:31.326. They finished in his wake Pascal Wehrlein, the leader Jean-Eric Vergne and Lucas Di Grassi. The four thus obtained a ticket for the phase of crossings unlike a Sam Bird who stayed 13 thousandths of fourth place. For its part, Group B of classification closed with Mitch Evans giving a sample of what he was going to do next. Nyck de Vries, André Lotterer and Robin Frijns managed to sneak into the top 4 with a certain margin, leaving Oliver Rowland and António Félix Da Costa in the lurch.
As a consequence of these results, Stoffel Vandoorne faced Robin Frijns in the first meeting of the quarterfinals, although the Mercedes driver did not give his rival a chance with a time of 1:30.293 that gave him the step to the ‘semis’. In the second round, Pascal Wehrlein was the winner of one of the most morbid duels of the session, as he faced his partner André Lotterer. The last two heats between Jean-Eric Vergne and Nyck de Vries and between Elfyn Evans and Lucas Di Grassi fell on the side of the championship leader and the double winner of the Rome ePrix.
The semifinals served to measure forces between four of the drivers who are fittest in the category. Stoffel Vandoorne succumbed to the push of Pascal Wehrlein’s Porsche in the first ‘semi’, while in the second frontman Jean-Eric Vergne couldn’t handle the increasingly inspired Mitch Evans. The Jaguar driver set the fastest time of the penultimate round of qualifying, signing his favoritism to achieve pole. He did not fail to sign him and Mitch Evans got the pole with a stratospheric 1: 29.839, since no other driver managed to get below 1:30.
This is how Mitch Evans will start in the first position on the grid, accompanied in the front row by Pascal Wehrlein. With a better time in the semis, Jean-Eric Vergne will start third, ahead of Stoffel Vandoorne. From the times recorded in the quarterfinals, Lucas Di Grassi has taken fifth position and will start ahead of André Lotterer, Robin Frijns and Nyck de Vries. As the best classified in the group stage, Oliver Rowland will start ninth and António Félix Da Costa tenth, both already in fifth row.
