- This rarely seen intervention occurred in Israel and after a month it has been considered successful.
- A run over child diagnosed with internal decapitation managed to save his life thanks to a complex surgery to join his head with the rest of his body.
- The survival rate for cases of this type is barely 50%.
One of the many characteristics that Medicine has is that nothing is static because everything is constantly updated. In the same way, clinical cases appear every day that cause surprise because they seem to come out of a movie. A clear example occurred with a team of doctors who carried out a successful surgery to attach a head to the rest of its body.
Description of what happened
This rarely seen event occurred in a Jerusalem hospital. It all started when suleiman hassana 12-year-old Palestinian boy, was riding his bicycle down the street and suddenly was hit by a vehicle.
As a result of the above, the infant suffered a internal beheading because the skull was separated from the upper vertebrae of the spine. Although he was instantly taken to a hospital, the prognosis was guarded. Although the worst was thought and the chances of saving the little boy were minimal, the doctors in charge never gave up.
However, despite the diagnosis of bilateral dislocation of the atlanto-occipital jointthe surgeons put all their efforts to avoid the tragedy.
Surgery surprises and manages to unite a head with the rest of his body
With this in mind, the Dr Ohad Einav, who is a specialist in orthopedics, led a complicated operation. With the help of plates they managed to fix the damaged area and saved the patient’s life.
At the beginning the group of surgeons said that in this type of case the survival rate is barely 50%. But what was surprising was not only that the intervention was successful, but also that the patient’s recovery has shown advances rarely seen.
While riding his bike last month, like any other day, a Palestinian boy named Suleiman Hassan was involved in a terrible car accident.

Although the intervention was carried out in June, the specialists waited a month to announce the results. During this period the child has recovered and has even been discharged from the hospital. He now uses a cervical splint and is remotely monitored to verify his evolution.
In a statement to The Times of Israel, Dr. Einav expressed that this surgery is “extremely rare”. At the same time he mentioned that the large size of a child’s head in relation to an adult means that they are “more susceptible”. For this reason it was a factor that helped to make the result satisfactory.
For now, what do you think about this surgery that managed to unite the decapitated head with the rest of his body?
