Microsoft has released an update for the Photos app in Windows 11 that includes a new feature called Generative Erase, which allows users to remove unwanted objects and people from their photos using artificial intelligence. Surprisingly, this feature is also available for Windows 10 and Windows 11 ARM64.
A powerful editing tool for all Windows users
Known as Magic Erase, this feature uses artificial intelligence algorithms similar to those found in Google’s tool for Android devices. What was previously exclusive to Windows 11 is now available to a broader user base, including those still using Windows 10.
A smarter Photos app for Windows
Even though Microsoft has set the official “death” of Windows 10 for October 2025, it continues to release new features for this operating system. This is due to the large number of users still using it and the need to promote the company’s artificial intelligence capabilities.

How Generative Erase works in Windows
The Generative Photo Erase feature is easy to use: users simply select an area they want to remove from an image and the tool intelligently erases it, reconstructing the background so that the editing is not noticeable. This feature leverages AI technology, such as Copilot or a variant of DALL-E, to achieve amazing results.
Availability and arrival to users
Generative Erase and other AI editing features, such as Blur Background and Remove and Replace Background, are now available in the Insider version of Windows 10 and 11 within the Photos app. They are expected to reach all users in the coming days, bringing a more advanced photo editing experience to the Windows community.
