Microsoft has provided for years the macro in your Office applications to grant capabilities of automation to documents. This functionality is very useful in Businessbut unfortunately more and more freeloaders to perpetuate attacks and infect users with malware.
microsoft so far warned of the existence of macros in a document, with a simple button to enable them. But because many users ended up being victims of attacks, Microsoft has decided toughen measures: macros from documents downloaded from the internet will remain blocked default.
Blocking macros from the internet in Office: a harsh but effective measure
Microsoft is going to make this new change in five applications of Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Visio. The change will start to roll out in the Current Channel (preview) of Office and will prevent users from being able to enable macros with one click.
After its implementation in the stable channel, Microsoft also will implement in the future in other channels, especially business channels. It will also apply to versions LTSC of the office suite, such as Office 2021, 2019, 2016, and 2013.
As of this update when we try to open a file downloaded from the internet with the presence of macros, we will get a warning that these have been blocked with a button that will send us to a page with more information.
On this page the user will be informed of the danger opening unknown files, and how they can remove the lock by removing the Mark of the Web (MOTV). The MOTV is a property of the file system NTFS of Windows that allows the system to know if a file has been Discharged from the internet or obtained from other means.
