In January we told you about a strange problem that happened with NTFS, the Windows 10 file system. The failure was very easy to happen and forced us to have to repair Windows at the next boot. But, fortunately, it seems that Microsoft has managed to solve this error in the latest Insider Build, Build 21322.
Goodbye to NTFS corruption in Windows 10
The failure occurred when embedding a string, which could arrive as part of a ZIP file, a shortcut, or an HTML document. Once the operating system tried to access the file, it showed us the error “The file or directory is corrupt and cannot be read” and told us to restart the computer and check the design using Chkdsk.
Now, as we already anticipated, Microsoft has solved this problem in Build 21322 of the Dev channel. If we try to replicate that failure now we will find the message “The name of the directory is not valid” and it will stop marking the volume as corrupt. A relief for Windows 10 users who will not have to suffer from this annoying problem, surely in the next cumulative update.
At the moment, Microsoft has not indicated anything in this regard, but it is very likely that the next update will incorporate the solution to this problem. This is more of an annoyance than a big problem, but many people could find themselves in this situation when opening a web page. This may be a problem that Microsoft had to solve.
Fortunately, the solution has come quite quickly and, just a month after the bug was discovered, the Redmond giant has reacted. We expect these types of bugs to be reduced as Microsoft continues to refine its operating system with multiple cumulative updates. We will be very attentive to the launch of the next update and we will indicate if it has been solved.
