After almost a year going through countless competition regulators, finally yesterday the acquisition was closed from Nuance Communications. A purchase that has meant one of the largest outlays in the company’s history. The deal has been subjected to regulatory scrutiny around the world. Since Microsoft announced its plans to acquire Nuance in April 2021.
Nuance, Microsoft’s commitment to AI
nuance is an AI company specializing in speech recognition, software and other related services. Microsoft paid $19.7 billion for Nuance, making it its third largest acquisition to datewith Activision Blizzard ($68.7 billion) and LinkedIn ($26.2 billion) the largest to date.
The reality is that Nuance is well known in the health area, where Microsoft would now have a large presence, but it is also present in more places. Nuance is present in other important vertical sectors that Microsoft aspires to, such as financial services, retail and telecommunications. Microsoft plans to use Nuance technology to create more “Vertically Optimized AI”.
“Customers will benefit from improved experiences for consumers, patients, physicians and employees, and ultimately from improved productivity and financial performance,” says Microsoft’s March 4 press release about closing the deal.
mark benjamin will remain the CEO of Nuance and report directly to the Executive Vice President of the Microsoft Cloud + AI Group, Scott Guthrie. Once again, Microsoft opts for the same solution as LinkedIn or GitHub, which work as independent entities but integrate with Microsoft services.
Microsoft also announced today that Microsoft and Nuance are combining Nuance contact center solutions with the product Dynamics 365 Customer Service from Microsoft to create a secure, AI-powered contact center offering.
