Microsoft seeks to add new users to Teams and, therefore, has decided to launch a “Stories” platform in the style of Facebook and Instagram.
Currently, Microsoft Teams has more than 270 million monthly active users worldwide.
Seeking further expansion and, incidentally, adding new users to its platform, Microsoft Teams is adding an Instagram and Facebook-style “Stories” tab.
More than a social network, let’s say, common, Microsoft Teams is, in reality, a platform for interaction between the workers of a companya site that, following the arrival of the pandemic, served as a meeting point and meetings for companies with their employees.
At this point, it is no longer a secret that, due to the health emergency caused by Covid-19, it was key so that, in various parts of the world, the digitization boom became something more than a trend, even marking new habits for people.
Thus, during the height of the pandemic, platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, have positioned themselves as the space to hold friendship meetings, online classes, home officeamong other virtual activities.
In Mexico, according to a survey prepared by AMIPCI and OCC, nearly three-quarters (72 percent) of those interviewed worked at home sometime between March and June 2020.
According to data from Glimpsean American company that is responsible for monitoring consumer trends on the Internet, the platforms most used by Internet users in terms of online classes, distance work, etc., were Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, among others.
Microsoft Teams bets on “Stories” to reach more users
team of Microsoft currently has more than 270 million monthly active users and is also the cornerstone of Microsoft Office, as it contributes almost 23 percent of the 49 billion dollars the company earns on a quarterly basis.
Thus, as an expansion plan and, of course, in order to reach a greater number of users, Microsoft Teams is adding a new function to its platform inspired by what other social networks such as Facebook and Instagram have done.
The new tab that will come to Microsoft Teams is the “Stories” tab, thanks to a new platform that bears the name of Viva Engagewhich will allow users or coworkers to share video stories that can serve as a record of their activities.
“There was real interest in using video as a richer way to express messages and thoughts within an organization; video allows people to express things in their own voice and captures much richer body language and cues,” said Dan Holme, product lead at Viva Engagein a recent interview.
It should be noted that, with this new platform, users will be able to create files from PowerPoint, as well as share the “Stories” developed on their social networks, such as Instagram or TikTok, which will help generate a different dynamic in terms of interaction. of the collaborators.
The “Stories” expand to other platforms
A recent update is allowing “Stories” to now be part of Microsoft Xbox consolesin order to offer a new way of interacting between gamers.
This new section on consoles will allow users to share a bit of their video game experience and also tag other users.
In other words, Microsoft has in mind that its consumers have a more social experience than what is already allowed until now, which is, in reality, the same experience that the company seeks to offer with Teams.
Is Teams late with this new feature? Taking into account what has been done by other social networks, everything indicates that it is, although we will have to wait to see how users receive it.
