In recent years, Hollywood has had a mania for reviving franchises that were successful a few years ago. If the results have shown anything, it is that when the work is done with care, the reception can be very positive (Planet of the Apes). But when economic interest comes first, tragedy is bound to happen (The mummy, Baywatch are some dishonorable samples). In case of Back to the Future is even more complicated, since the franchise continues to be loved more than three decades after its launch, and a reboot It might not be necessary, or at least that’s how Michael J Fox, its protagonist, sees it.
During an interview for Varietywhere he talked about the ups and downs in his professional and personal life, the interpreter of the iconic Marty McFly addressed the million dollar question: Should there be a reboot from Back to the Future? How could it be? This was his forceful response:
“I’m not a fan. Do whatever you want. It’s your movie. They already paid me. But I don’t think it should be done. I think Robert (Zemeckis, director and writer) and Bob (Gale, writer) have been very smart about it. I don’t think a reboot is needed, because… Are they going to make anything clearer? Will they find a better way to tell the story? I doubt it”.
Curiously, other statements by the actor caught the attention of the networks a few months ago. At the time, Michael J Fox commented that a reboot of Back to the Future It could be possible, but with one major change: Marty McFly should be a girl. As has happened with other gender-swapping characters, fans of the iconic saga rejected the idea. On the other hand, the actor was also questioned about what happened after the premiere of back to the future III. To no one’s surprise, it seems there was some interest in making a fourth film. What stopped the plans?
“I’m sure somebody thought of it (making another movie). But, at that point, I was in the early stages of Parkinson’s, so I don’t know if I would have liked to assume that. Right after the third party did well, there might have been talks about it, but I never got involved in it,” he added.
If we analyze it carefully, make a reboot of Back to the Future it would be a monumental task. The way he plays with science fiction, the chemistry of his leads, his visual effects, and the way he connected with the audience are classics. Replicating these elements, for more technology that currently exists, would not be easy. And if we add to this that the story and its stars continue to be adored by the public, it is better to leave any idea of reboot in a drawer. If you have doubts, ask other studios.

Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
