- The Technical Protocol for the treatment of PAH is the first in Latin America that seeks to standardize care and treatment of the disease in the public and private sectors
- Within the framework of the National Day for the Fight against Pulmonary Hypertension, which will be commemorated on May 5, the forum “Care Protocol for PAH” was held in the Chamber of Deputies.
- PAH is a rare, catastrophic, serious, progressive, disabling and life-threatening disease.
Mexico is at the forefront of the world, as it is the first and only document in Latin America that standardizes and standardizes medical care in all public and private health institutions, in favor of the more than 4,000 Mexican patients who, it is estimated, live with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.
This is after the publication of the Technical Protocol for the Treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (HAP) by the General Health Council (CSG).
During the Forum “Care Protocol for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension”, organized by the Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Pablo Trejo, president of the Mexican Association of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (HAP Mexico), stated that, With this document published in December 2021, a new stage in the treatment of PAH begins since it provides all patients with PAH and its different types, the certainty of comprehensive care and specific treatments in all health institutions in the country.
The Pulmonary hypertension is the general name for a group of several chronic and catastrophic diseases – such as PAH and Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH). Which are characterized by the restriction of blood flow that causes an increase in the pressure of the pulmonary arteries, and as a consequence, right heart failure and early death. Is a complex conditionprogressive and misdiagnosed, with a prevalence of 30 to 50 cases per million people worldwide.
Regarding the commemoration of the National Day for the Fight against Pulmonary Hypertension, medical experts highlighted that the Protocol details the stages of intervention of the disease. As well as the treatments to follow based on their evolution, the specific medications needed and other supplies required to provide comprehensive care to all patients.
“One of the most relevant points of the Protocol has to do with access to the specific treatments required by patients with PAH and its different types, such as Chronic Thromboembolic Arterial Hypertension (CTEPH), since it strengthens the right of patients to have the public health institutions commit to granting them, especially when they are contemplated in the National Compendium of Health Supplies,” added Dr. Tomas Pulido, cardiopulmonologist and deputy director of clinical research at the Ignacio Chávez National Institute of Cardiology.
