Historically, the field of health has been ignored in our country. As a consequence, there are not enough hospitals and many of those that exist are in precarious conditions. Similarly, another problem is the shortage of physicians that prevails in Mexico. For this reason, the workload for current doctors is excessive.
To get an idea of the dimension of the problem, the owner of the General Directorate of Quality and Health Education (DGCES), José Luis García Ceja, indicated that 200,000 female doctors and general practitioners and specialists are needed to meet international standards. As a result of the above, the most affected people are those who live in marginalized areas or those with difficult access in rural areas.
On behalf of the Secretary of Health, Jorge Alcocer Varela, attending the ceremony of graduation of residents in Mexico Citythe head of the DGCES said that now one of the priorities is to reverse the deficit of doctors.
The states most affected by the shortage of doctors
With this in mind, he explained that it should settle the pending task for decades in states such as Chiapas, Oaxaca and Guerrero, who have been unprotected from this right. He stressed that our country has a third of the medical professionals that a nation should have for every one hundred thousand inhabitants, in accordance with the recommendations of world health organizations.
He asked the graduates that, regardless of whether they work in the public or private initiative, always offer quality medical services, with a human sense, especially to those who lack social security.

For her part, the owner of the CDMX Health Secretariat (Sedesa), Oliva López Arellano, expressed her enthusiasm when giving the welcome 310 new specialists. He said that his attitude of commitment to transform and guarantee the right to health protection for people without social security should never disappear.
He also remembered that Three years ago, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Mexico City and in the country.
“We are living through difficult times and we have had to face multiple challenges. However, with the participation of the federal government, the Ministry of Health, and training bodies such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), we have a completely different situation.”
He also mentioned that the health emergency showed the weight of the health conditions of the people in his quality of life and the development of comorbidities. There are pending tasks such as delving into the prevention and timely detection of chronic non-communicable diseases, which played an important role in serious cases and deaths from COVID-19.
The director of Training, Medical Update and Research of the Mexico City Health Secretariat, Lilia Elena Monroy Ramírez, highlighted the participation of management personnel and heads of education to improve training and academic programs.
