The divers of La Quebrada They are authentic legends of Acapulco. Their feat attracts locals and tourists who gather every afternoon to admire them. With courage and recklessness, these bird-men They are launched from the top of the hill, at a height of 35 meters, directly into the waters of the Pacific.
Its story begins in the neighborhoods of Lerdo de Tejada, Tepetates, Adobería, Poza and Pocita, surrounding the hill of La Quebrada. The residents of these neighborhoods, for more than 85 years, went fishing on the stones. Sometimes they would get stuck and lose hooks. Trying to rescue them, they swam and dived and, between games, they challenged each other to see who could jump from the highest.

The first man to jump off the top of the cliff was Rigoberto Apac Ríos. Every year on November 23 The emergence of this tradition is commemorated with a three-day festival.
Over time, the La Quebrada divers have become a tourist attraction in Acapulco. Their technique has also improved over the years, to the point where they now attempt various types of dives before the astonished gazes of those present.
Best of Mexico Awards recognizes the heroes of La Quebrada
In his 6th. 2024 edition, the award that will be given to the most outstanding tourism in Mexico will be inspired by the divers of La Quebrada, as a gesture of recognition of their dedication and courage.
México Desconocido awards the prizes The Best of Mexico to the best experiences, routes and destinations of our country. It is the travelers themselves who vote for their favorites from a list of nominees.
In the 2023 edition, the award given to the winners was inspired by the art of Don Juan Quezada Celado, renowned Chihuahuan potter. Quezada Celado enjoys international prestige and in 1999 he won the National Prize for Sciences and Arts, in addition to other awards that he has to his credit.
For the 2024 edition, México Desconocido has decided to pay tribute to the Quebrada divers by modeling the awards in their honor, hoping that with this gesture they will obtain the recognition they have earned as one of the top tourist attractions in Acapulco.
