The Government of Mexico confirmed this Tuesday that the country granted political asylum to the family of the former president of Peru, Pedro Castillowho was removed by Congress after carrying out a coup and now remains in prison.

The foreign minister explained that they are negotiating with the Peruvian authorities to grant a safe-conduct in case the Castillo family wants to travel to Mexico.

However, he did not mention the names of Castillo’s relatives who are in the embassy protected by political asylum.
