- Barely two years after its launch, the initiative has already improved the visual health of 15,000 patients thanks to the use of technology and Artificial Intelligence.
- Through a risk calculator, which is 100% online, it determines the probability that a person will develop diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and/or some ophthalmological condition.
- With the new support received and to democratize health, he now plans to launch his own digital platform to offer general medical care.
One of the biggest challenges for any country is democratize health. To date, very few have achieved it and it is a pending task for nations like Mexico. But in addition to the public sector, there is also a private initiative to increase medical coverage and make this service available to more people.
With this in mind, PROSPERY is a Mexican startup that emerged with the mission of democratizing access to quality health services through technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI). The most outstanding thing is that to meet his goal he obtained financing of two million dollars from Cardo Health. It is a Swedish investment fund dedicated to supporting technological initiatives in the health sector.
According to Cristina Campero, general director of the firm, part of this capital will allow the development of new technological solutions for improve the patient experience. In addition, it will also be used to make itself known in more regions of Mexico and provide comprehensive care through technology.
Work done so far
This company initially focused on the timely diagnosis of chronic diseases and the prevention of blindness through the use of risk calculators and visual health evaluation. Through these two tools, it has helped prevent blindness in more than 15,000 Mexicans since its commercial launch in January 2021.
The risk calculator is 100% online and determines the probability that a person will develop diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases and/or some ophthalmological condition.
The visual health assessment is done using a fundus camera that allows taking a photo of the retina without any discomfort. Digital images are studied on the platform, with PROSPERiA’s AI algorithms, which recognize damage from the main causes of blindness.
Thanks to the resources provided by “Cardo Health”, during 2023 the company will seek to increase its impact by increasing the number of visual health evaluations to more than 10,000 patients per month.
Future plans
In addition, also using financing from the Swedish fund, will develop a telemedicine and artificial intelligence platform focused on primary health, particularly the mental part and female care, with online doctors and psychologists. In this way, the patient will be able to access immediate or scheduled consultations at low cost. Each patient will have their clinical history within the platform, which will allow doctors to offer better personalized care. The launch of this platform is expected in early 2023.
According to National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval), during 2020, 28% of the population (35.7 million people) lacked public health services. Therefore, PROSPERiA was born to help meet this demand and with the aim of democratizing health services and bringing them to all Mexicans.
