The work of health professionals can be recognized in different ways that go beyond the gratitude of patients. Its impact can even reach spaces that seem far from the medical environment. One of the most recent cases involved a Mexican doctor who has gained importance for her work on social networks and has now been invited to give a TED Talk.
The protagonist of this story is the Dr. Jaqueline López Ortegawho is better known in digital media as the Dr. Jackie Lopez. As part of her training, she has a degree in General Medicine from the Universidad Anáhuac Norte in Mexico City. She also has a Master’s Degree in Direction and Management of Health Institutions from the Universidad Anáhuac Sur and a Diploma in Digital Health Transformation from the Harvard University.
Making health understandable to patients
While since 2017 he decided to venture into social networks professionally. In this way she created Health in Short, an audiovisual medium that offers substantiated and verified content but with a friendly language. The idea is to break with the idea that doctors always talk in technical terms that often confuse patients.
As part of this natural evolution also He opened his own Youtube channel where he makes videos with health-related topics. To date, it has more than 700,000 followers, although it also has more followers on other platforms.
With this in mind, she has positioned herself as a doctor with a strong impact on social networks and now she has added a new recognition to her career because she was invited to give a TED Talks. It is an invitation that very few health professionals in the world can boast.
But first, what are TED Talks?
TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading ideas and motivating others. It all started at the initiative of Richard Saul Wurman, who founded the organization with Harry Marks in February 1984.
It is currently a project known for its annual congress (TED Conference) and its talks (TED Talks) that cover a wide spectrum of topics including science, art and design, politics, education, culture, business, global affairs, technology, development and entertainment.
Based on the above, the global project consists of inviting a renowned person to give a lecture on a specific topic before an audience. All the talk is recorded with professional cameras and is uploaded to the official TED Talks Youtube channel, which has more than 38 million followers.
Just to get an idea, among the people who have given talks are former President of the United States Bill Clinton; the Nobel Prize in Medicine James D. Watson; and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. In addition, the Mexican nutritionist Stephany Aveleyra Vizcarra also stands out.
While now the Mexican doctor joins the list of those who have offered a TED Talks. In his case, his presentation is entitled “The Black Box of Medicine” and consists of his own experience within this profession. It focuses on the way he has broken paradigms by making science understandable to anyone.
