This morning, Paramount Pictures unveiled the categories in which Babylona film starring Margot Robbie, Diego Calva and Brad Pitt, will seek to compete in the next installment of the Oscar . However, there was a big surprise. Although Calva has been sold as the protagonist of the film, his interpretation had been included for the category of Best Supporting Actor.
Instead, Brad Pitt would compete for the nomination as Best Actor. The reactions of many moviegoers were immediate, as they considered it to be a “category fraud.” Many assumed that Paramount’s intention was to pave the way for Calva to get a nomination even if it was in the wrong category.
Hours after the news, Paramount corrected the information and announced that the representative for Best Actor would finally be Diego Calva. For his part, Brad Pitt will go to the cast category. So far, Best Actor is shaping up to be one of the most competitive categories of the next installment of the Oscars. Even though some premieres are missing, various experts in the field have already released some predictions about the possible nominees.
Some of the actors with whom the Mexican could face are: austin butler (Elvis), brendan fraser (The Whale), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Hugh Jackman (The Son), bill nighty (Living room) and even Tom Cruise (Top Gun: Maverick). Will he manage to get the nomination for such an important award?
In Babylon We will travel to the Hollywood of the 1920s, when the transition from silent to sound cinema took place and many artists saw their careers cut short by the change, while others rose to fame. The latter is the case of Clara Bow, one of the first “sex symbols” and “it-girl” of history, who sees his career reflected against his peers who lost their stardom with sound films. Calva plays Manny Torres, a young and ambitious character who will be key to the story.
In an interview for Varietythe Mexican told how he felt when he got into the skin of his character for the first time:
“I can only say that it is a moment that I will remember forever. As soon as he saw me, Damien (Chazelle, the director) put the soundtrack of The Godfather to help me get into character. If it wasn’t for the way they treated me, so wonderfully human, I would have been more nervous. I can only thank you.”

John Joseph Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movies.
