The Mexican government reported this Wednesday that exports of agri-food products exceeded 50,000 million dollars in 2022, 12.19% more than the previous year and the highest data recorded in the last 30 years.
The precise amount of 50.133 million dollars, highlighted the Ministry of Agriculture and Social Development (Sader) in a report, it represents an income of foreign currency to the countrythe generation of jobs in the primary sector, better income for producers and domestic supply.
Regarding the arrival of foreign currency, agri-food products they were only surpassed by remittances (58,497 million dollars), but they exceeded 27.9% to oil exports and 79.9% to foreign tourism.
While, agri-food imports were 44,327 million dollars, so the trade balance presented a surplus of 5,806 million dollarsan upward trend that registered for the eighth consecutive year.
So, the annual balance of Mexico’s agrifood trade with the rest of the world totaled 94,459 million dollars.
By sectors, the agricultural and fishing balance registered exports for 21,398 million dollars and imports for 21,548 million dollarsaccording to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico).
The agro-industrial balance, for its part, had sales abroad of 28.735 million dollars and imported the equivalent of 22,778 million dollars.
Beverages, fruits and vegetables were the main products exported, concentrating 60% of agri-food trade movements.
Specifically, the highest increases were those of unroasted and non-decaffeinated coffee (78.9%), sugar (44.87%), wheat and meslin (44.39%), preparations of coffee, tea or yerba mate (42.41%) and malt extract (34.21%).
However, those products with the highest export value were beer, tequila, mezcal, avocado, fresh or refrigerated tomatobakery products and fresh strawberries and raspberries.
As for imports, summarized the Secretariat, 57% were concentrated in the sector of cereals, oilseeds and fruits, meat and dairy products, eggs and honey.
