The popularity of the metaverse has already prompted initiatives to protect the rights in the metaverse by legal specialists. That is how Metalaw, a community of jurists, has emerged which already has at least 923 members in just a few days since its creation. Since the metaverse is both an innovation and a technological challenge at the same time, the need to address aspects that are susceptible to regulation and conflicts of interest in these digital environments is anticipated.
Conflict Resolution and Rights in the Metaverse
The objective of current developments lies in emulating the complexity of our world and with it some of its problems, and new difficulties will even be created that must be resolved by legal means. In this context, Metalaw aims to position itself as a consultative entity for metaverse developer companies, as well as for companies or individuals that maintain projects in them.. Metalaw is creating a free opinion space where you can share knowledge and conduct research with interdisciplinary groups.
The viability of this project requires that both lawyers and technologists be involved in developing the impact of law in this entire scenario. Furthermore, it is quite possible that these virtual environments will also end up influencing the law in the long run. In Metalaw there are already several working groups that focus on various legal areas, such as: Protection of Personal Data, Consumer Law, AML (Anti Money Laundering Regulations), Computer Crimes, Digital Identity, Conflict Resolution, Labor Law, Human Rights, Fintech, Intellectual Property. Fiscal/Tax, Introduction to the metaverse, Real Estate, Defense of Competition, Play to Earn, Regulatory and Jurisdiction, etc..
Meetings in the Metaverse
Currently the Metalaw community is distributed on the Telegram and Discord platforms with the working groups on the Discord server where they have already held a meeting on smart contracts or smart contracts. The next step is to hold a meetup in the metaverse and for the moment the Musure World company has been the first to establish contact with Metalaw.
Metalaw is an initiative of Agustina Pérez Comenale, Federico Ast, Sebastián Heredia, Juan Corvalán and Covadonga Fernández. It also has the support of Kleros Montevideo, Legal Hackers, IALAB UBA and the Blockchain Observatory..
