It has been fulfilled. The Mercedes EQG Concept is a reality. The star brand has just unveiled a preview of the future electric G-Class coming in 2024, completely transforming the drive of the iconic off-roader. The concept reproduces the special features of the G-Class design.
The Mercedes Concept EQG has just been unveiled at the 2021 Munich Motor Show, an advance very close to the production model that will be unveiled in 2024, and with which we can already get a more approximate idea of its final image, remaining faithful to the design of the original model although integrating the characteristic features of the new electric car division, to continue the commercial success achieved in the more than 40 years in the market and the more than 400,000 units sold.
Mercedes will not undertake a radical transformation like in other Mercedes EQ models in the future EQG. From the front, it stands out for its iconic round LED headlights, but its classic radiator grille is gone, replaced by a shiny black piece that houses the logo of the star with a 3D style and, of course, illuminated. As well as a pattern of animations that occur on the grid panel.
The Mercedes Concept EQG retains the iconic features of the German off-road vehicle
The design study also shows the same design of the side, mounted on large wheels and 22-inch alloy wheels, plus a two-tone body paint that divides the body. From the glazed surface downwards, it is presented in glossy aluminum and upwards in glossy black. Special details follow one after another. For example, the rear spare wheel hanging from the tailgate has been removed and occupied with a box in a wall charger type design to store the charging cables battery.
Another special detail is the exterior lighting based on white LED light, installed in the housings of the exterior rearview mirrors and around the front grill. A lighting system that is also located on the roof rack system installed in a completely flat roof and painted in black that highlights its presence or the rear light clusters, which remain those of the G-Class, although the red light bar passes to the top.
The German firm has not presented the interior but it has confirmed the technical information that we have been giving you since we had the first news of this future model. Mercedes has pointed out that the EQG is being conceived on the same chassis as the combustion G-Class, a ladder frame made of aluminum. to reduce weight but to retain its excellent off-road capability. This is the structure that will house the battery pack, which will power four electric motors, one per wheel. The German brand has developed a special system to make them independently controlled, and equipped with a two-speed gearbox, so it also confirms a high power in the two versions that will be available.
