Secretly, without any official announcement, this is how the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² has been presented. A true off-road beast, this time with the pedigree of the star sports brand that will come with force to deprive other SUVs with off-road capabilities of any chance.
After a very long period of testing in which some already doubted that Mercedes would present this new edition of the most brutal off-roader in the range, the star brand has revealed, almost in an airtight secret, the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4². A second generation that puts the finishing touch to the Geländewagen and that will say goodbye in the best possible way in just over a year.
The most brutal and wild G-Class returns, although this time with the genes of Mercedes-AMG in between, because it has been the sports division that has assumed the challenge of its development, so that the dynamic capacity is exceeded once again compared to his predecessor. The firm has started from the base of the G-Class, although they have optimized the classic ladder chassis by mounting a new suspension with a larger articulated axle and with more height to the ground reaching 351 millimetersin addition to some 22-inch matte black painted forged alloy wheels.
The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² is the icing on the story of the G-Class
A configuration with which the new AMG G 63 4×4² has a wading capacity with a depth of up to 910 millimeterswith a ramp angle of 42º, while the maximum exit angles are 41.3º at the front and 36.8º at the rear, which allows it to climb slopes of up to 45º maximum inclination. One of the wildest configurations for pure off-road driving without compromise, and complemented by a powerfully striking exterior. As much, as the sports cars of the Affalterbach house, well the arches of the wheel arches are not conventional plastic, but visible carbon fiber.
Imitation is the exterior protective strip that extends along the sides at the height of the doors. Those of Mercedes-AMG have also added features of the “PROFESSIONAL” package, such as the carbon fiber cover for the spare wheel hanging from the tailgate with the anagram «4×4²» engraved. This explains how long these elements have been covered in camouflage during the long development that we have seen in spy photos. The brand also offers cargo roof rack with ladder as part of the “PROFESSIONAL” optional equipment.
Inside, which maintains the more normal G 63 dashboard, there are a number of differentiating details compared to this version, such as the multi-contour seats, the Burmester sound system, the “ENERGIZING” comfort control and the “URBAN GUARD plus” advanced safety function, debuting a sophisticated digital interior rearview mirror. Under the hood, nothing new, since it mounts the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 with a maximum power of 585 hp and 910 Nm of torqueassociated with 9-speed automatic gearbox 9G-Tronic. A special edition that will remain in production from next August to the first quarter of 2024.
