The new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC + is here, the first of two sporty versions of the new Mercedes EQS, and the first high-performance electric to come out of the AMG workshops. A world first at the IAA 2021 Munich Motor Show, a true flagship in power and performance with up to 761 hp.
Mercedes has thrown the house out the window at the IAA 2021 Munich Motor Show. The star’s signature has presented its latest developments in the field of electric cars, culminating the offer with the most exclusive model of all, the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC +. And be careful, because it is not the top of the range of the new Mercedes EQS, but there will be an AMG 63 above, but its figures are a real scandal.
In the aesthetic section, Mercedes has implemented special details such as the front grill in black, with thin vertical bars reproduced in the purest Panamericana style, and ragged headlamps that feature exclusive “DIGITAL LIGHT” technology as standard. The bumper air intakes are distinguished by the glossy black finish of the decorative moldings, and an “Air Curtain” function that redirects the air in front of the front wheels to avoid turbulence. A sportier design also at the rear, highlighted by a 6-channel aerodynamic diffuser and a special larger spoiler. The alloy wheels are 21 and 22 inches.
The Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC + will arrive in 2022
Inside, the EQS 53 4MATIC + offers the typical and especially sporty AMG look, with leather and contrasting stitching in red, including the new MBUX Hyperscreen as standard. Three large screens on the dashboard that will feature AMG-specific graphics, display and functions spread over a large surface of no less than 1.41 meters. The star brand has a very long list of optional equipment, such as the “AMG Night Dark Chrom”, which adds carbon details in the cabin.
Despite being more than five meters long, the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC + has a chassis adapted to a more sporty driving, including also the Active steering of the rear axle with a maximum turn of 9º, both in the opposite direction, which will facilitate maneuvers, and in the same direction as the front ones, offering a perfect line of the curves. A major suspension upgrade is the two pressure limiting valves. One controls the extension of the shock absorbers and the other the compression phase, allowing for faster adaptation to asphalt conditions, also taking into account the specifications of each driving program – ‘Slippery road’, ‘Comfort’, ‘Sport’, ‘Sport +’ and ‘Individual’ – of the ‘AMG DYNAMIC system SELECT ».
The new AMG EQS 53 also features high-performance composite disc braking equipment, offering the option of a more powerful system equipped with larger diameter ceramic brake discs. Not only does the signature guarantee top-notch stopping power, it can also be added the new “i-Booster” system, which combines hydraulic braking equipment with an electrical energy recovery function.
AMG’s first 100% electric model has thrown the house out of the window in terms of performance. As we had been announcing, the new Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC + consists of two electric motors, one for each axle, so it has AMG Performance 4MATIC + all-wheel drive, and a maximum power generated between the two units that reaches 484 kW, 658 hp. Enough, but that can be increased much more if the optional package “AMG DYNAMIC PLUS” is added to the equipment.
This one has a “boost” function when the “RACE START” mode is engaged which increases power to 560 kW, 761 hp, offering benefits closer to those of a hypercar that you can see detailed below. The system is powered by a large lithium-ion battery housed between the shafts, with a net capacity of 107.8 kWh, requiring just 15 minutes to recharge energy for 300 kilometers autonomy. Mercedes also offers a sophisticated sound modulator, with different configuration options that tries to simulate a combustion engine, a premium equipment that goes by the name of “AMG SOUND EXPERIENCE”.
