If the Mercedes-AMG GT Berlina was the prize for the good work of the high-performance brand, and its enormous and positive sales figures, the head of the company has announced a second prize: the star’s sports firm is developing its own platform for electric sports cars, confirming a supercar by 2025.
Mercedes-AMG it will also have its own electric car platform. The star’s sports brand will continue to use the EVA 2.0 architecture for the high-performance versions of the Mercedes EQ models, but it will also will have an architecture for own developments. This has been confirmed by the head of the German giant, Ola Källenius, in a statement to a media agency specializing in the automotive industry.
The Swede has surprised with these words, because in truth he had been asked the reason why deliveries of electric models are being delayed, of which he has indicated that the great acceptance and high demand has caused this special situation, and in which Mercedes works to shorten the deadlines. Nothing really remarkable compared to the surprise launched, pointing to the development of a special platform for 100% electric cars with very high performancewhich will only be used by AMG.
AMG electric platform opens the brand to a new world
Kallenius has pointed out that “We are now in full development of a totally dedicated electrical architecture for AMG, from scratch”, summoning those interested to the next May 19 when the intentions of those from Affalterbach are expected to be announced. The president has not only referred to this novelty, but has also gotten wet and thrown the first stone of intentions, pointing out that the market premiere will take place «sometime in late 2025».
The pools are open more than ever, because we already know that it will be a high-flying sports car and a completely new conception by the German house, no bypass from one of the Mercedes passenger models. It would not be strange, at all, an electric variant of the new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé or the successor to the sports sedan, the Mercedes-AMG GT Sedan, a model that in the initial plans pointed to a brutal SUV.
And considering that Porsche has already announced its particular “Landjet”, which lelectric crossovers are the order of the day and that it is one of the most demanded bodies along with SUVs, it is a very real possibility that the concept that the sports brand will announce on May 19 follows this line. A very interesting event that we will follow very closely and of which we will inform you of all the details.
