The disposable material manufacturing of use medical in Mexico grew 11.1% in 2021 compared to 2020, being the productive activity most important in the industry of medical devicesaccording to a report presented this Tuesday that reaffirms that the country is the eighth exporter in this field.

explained Jorge Quevedo, director of economic studies at the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) during the presentation of the report “Knowing the medical device industry.”
The report, according to Quevedo, identified three economic activities that reflect the behavior of the industry, which were the manufacture of disposable material, non-electronic equipment for medical, dental and laboratory use, and non-woven fabrics.
According to the publication, the value of production reached constant 13.780 million pesos (702 million dollars) in 2021.
While the manufacture of non-electronic equipment for medical, dental and laboratory use had a constant production of 1,770 million pesos (90.2 million dollars), which is equivalent to an increase of 2.9%.
In addition, nonwoven fabric manufacturing grew 4.7% from 2020 to 2021.
Likewise, in 2021, the remuneration of personnel employed in the manufacture of disposable material for medical use had an increase of 0.4% compared to 2020 and the remuneration in the manufacture of non-electronic equipment for medical, dental and laboratory use grew 0.6%.
Meanwhile, remunerations in the manufacture of non-woven fabrics (compressed) increased 2.7% in 2021 compared to the previous year.
This reverses the negative trend that it presented in the previous two years”,

The report also states that in 2020 and 2021 there was an increase in employment, wages, prices and exports of the medical device industry.
“This contrasts with what happened in most economic activities, since they all reduced production, employment and wages in those years,”

Employment and exports
The report revealed that in 2020, the staff employed in the material manufacturing disposable for medical use increased 9.3% compared to 2019 and in 2021 it grew 2.6% compared to 2020.
Meanwhile, the personnel employed in the manufacture of non-electronic equipment for medical, dental and laboratory use created 5.8% in 2020 and 4.6% in 2021, both compared to a previous year.
While the manufacture of non-woven fabrics had an employment recovery of 3.6% in 2021 compared to 2020.
On the other hand, exports were higher than imports. In 2020 they reached 10,668 million dollars and imports 5,244 million dollars.
In addition, Mexico exported 96.7% of the total merchandise of medical devices to the United States, which is equivalent to 9,653 million dollars.
