Merca 2.0 – How has your career been?
km – Circumstantially I ended up doing radio, it wasn’t something I planned to do, and the news was something I wasn’t interested in either, but I found a chance as an assistant for the Carmen Aristegui and Javier Solórzano newscasts, and when I realized it, I was already producing Solórzano, and When I realized it, I was already producing Aristegui. I think the key was taking my position seriously, and I found that I was very passionate about it, especially that I am an adrenaline junkie and what more adrenaline than producing the all-star newscast with the all-star journalist.
I was with Carmen for a few good years in the W and then I found the possibility of doing something else and I ended up producing long interview formats and a news segment on MTV, and the truth is that I was never passionate about music, but I am assertive in the decision making.
Later I returned with Carmen, I produced it at MVS for six years, and I stopped producing it to get the report that took us to heaven but also caused us to lose our jobs, but I think it was worth it.
Merca 2.0 – How did you enter the world of TV?
km – I started producing Shark Tank without being passionate about the production of the venture, but I discovered a niche that I loved and I set myself a very clear objective, generally the tropicalized formats tend to be bad versions of the original formats, so my objective was to make the best version, that it was a format that I felt proud of. I produced Shark Tank for Mexico for 7 seasons and for Colombia for 5, in between I set up a production house, which lives and continues to work, called Cromática.
I am a person of objectives, but my greatest quality and my greatest danger is when something gets into my head because I take it to its ultimate consequences.
One day I decided that I wanted to study ice cream making and the consequence was that I studied ice cream making and graduated as a Gelatera Teacher and ended up opening an ice cream parlor. Another day I decided that I wanted to study floristry, I went to study floristry in Italy and started a flower project called Silvestre, with a friend. And now I went to study perfumery in France.
Merca 2.0 – How does it feel to be the producer of the most important reality show in the world?
km – It is a huge challenge that I did not think would happen to me, in September I had no idea that my life today would be governed by a program of this nature. The truth is that as a producer it is the biggest challenge of all, making an important format with a lot of dignity, full of challenges at the production level.
Market 2.0 – Why undertake?
km – I was in a broadcast with Aristegui in Spain and I dreamed of the taste of ice cream, I woke up and said it would be incredible to make ice cream. I pulled out my computer and honestly I had no idea how ice cream was made and had never made ice cream. I made an ice cream list and during the newscast I searched for ice cream schools until I signed up. Returning from that course I started making ice cream in a homemade machine and I took it with Aristegui and gave it to everyone to try, suddenly my neighbor asked me to make ice cream for her son’s birthday and at that same party I was another mom who asked me for ice cream and I said, this is the moment to decide if this is a real project or a hobby, and I decided to go to work as a Maestra Gelatera and a year later I started an ice cream parlor.
