The world panorama has been affected by a strong economic crisis thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic and other problems such as the war between Ukraine and Russia, which is why people are starting businesses to survive. Against this background, business stories have been emerging especially by becoming viral on social networks, as is the case of a young Colombian who created his brand “Medellín Air” and sells bottled air for dollars.
Being a successful person in the field of entrepreneurship requires a combination of characteristics. According to data from Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, There are more than 580 million entrepreneurs in the world. However, a high percentage of startups fail in their first year and only thirty percent of them survive their first decade.
In Mexico, it is also one of those countries where entrepreneurship grew, and it is estimated that a 46 percent of young people between 34 and 19 years old see a feasible scenario to start an entrepreneurial activity, in addition to considering that 60 percent is considered fit to undertake.
Medellin Airthe bottled air brand
The story of Juan Carlos Alvarado, the salesman who promotes Medellin air in a bottle, has been vitalized by its peculiarity and strangeness. It was learned that the young man is a singer and started a campaign to raise funds for his musical career, which has caused a lot of controversy and negative comments on social networks.
The young man mentioned to local media that this idea is not exclusive to him, since he took it up from a successful case in Europe.
“Everything can be achieved, nothing is impossible and I went to Europe and saw that they were selling air to the Chinese for 160 dollars and I said: Medellin is the city of eternal spring, and that’s where the idea was born”, Alvarado highlighted in an interview.
Likewise, the young man explained that it takes between 15 to 35 minutes to apply the technique to catch the air, using a device, and then sell it to foreign tourists who come to the Colombian city to be present at the Flower Fair.
It stands out that the fresh air used for its product is that of the Cerro de las Tres Cruces, in Palmas, or El Cerro Nutibara.
“I saw the need to undertake, to search, I have very crazy ideas, this is just one and when I look at the product as such, it’s crazy.”
He also assured that he manufactures between 100 and 200 bottles a day, which he sells in dollars, a figure that has not been revealed to the local media, but it is estimated that within days of starting the project he managed to accumulate more than 30 thousand Colombian pesos (around 100 thousand Mexican pesos).
After making his business known on social networks, especially on Instagram, several users commented, where many assured that it is a hoax.
“I take the issue too seriously and that led me to create a product with a system that uses a device that encapsulates the air, the device acts from the process of making the container odorless to encapsulating the air”, stated the young man.
This type of entrepreneurship is not the only one that has attracted attention, there is the case of a young woman who, through TikTok, sells her toenails, used cotton swabs and other things, earning thousands of dollars.
In this sense, ventures are becoming increasingly popular and more so when the use of social networks is involved as a means of promotion.
