kylian mbappe shouted to the four winds disagreement over use of his image by the psg, a disturbing message for other suiting clubs, with Real Madrid at the helm, a pioneer in exploiting the advertising rights of its players. This is the reading made by the sports marketing expert Vincent Chaudel as a result of the controversial statement posted by the man born in Bondy on Thursday and which has caused rivers of ink to flow in the French media, stupefied by the reaction of the 2018 world champion. An issue that could normally have been fixed internally has become a trend.
Mbappé’s anger originates after the club asked him to record a video that later served as the basis for the clip to attract members for the 2023-2024 campaign, in which, by the way, neither Leo Messi nor Neymar appear, the two other great stars of the team.
According to the striker, PSG did not clarify the purpose of these images when he was interviewed. “PSG is a great club and a great family, but Kylian Saint-Germain is not”he complained in his harsh message, implying an overexploitation of his image.
A paradoxical reaction for many, taking into account that he himself demanded in his last renovation to be the prow of the Qatari project. “The club has every right, from a legal point of view (Mbappé is a PSG employee), but he lacked clarity, explaining what that video was for”Chaudel explains to the EFE news agency.
Damaged image of Mbappé?
However, Mbappé does not benefit from this controversy either. After his stratospheric renewal in 2022, his contract expires in 2025, when he will be 26 years old. In the event that he does not renew, Real Madrid could be back in pole position to gain his services.
“Florentino Pérez (president of Real Madrid) was a forerunner in this exploitation of the image rights of his players and that is how he built his galactic project, with Figo, Zidane, Beckham”recalls Chaudel.
Would Mbappé have to submit to the same conditions as the galacticos, giving up those rights? A negative answer to this question is what can cause concern among the suitors of the gala star, according to this marketing expert.
