In the lawsuit that was filed in Federal Court in Los Angeles, California, the unit of Paramount Global failed to recover the rights to the article published in 1983, Top Gunsauthored by Ehud Yonay, from the family before launching the sequel to the successful film story.
According to the report of The Hollywood ReporterParamount signed the exclusive film rights to “Top Guns”, a text published in the May 1983 issue of the magazine California. For their part, the Yonays pointed out that the distributor and producer deliberately ignored that the copyright returned to the property of the family in January 2020.
In the lawsuit, Shosh Yonay and Yuval Yonay, Ehud’s widow and son, demand compensation for unspecified damages, including earnings from Top Gun: Maverickcancel the distribution of the film and its future sequels. Paramount remains silent on this lawsuit involving them.
Top Gun: Maverick represents the biggest film success so far in 2022, generating 548.6 million dollars globally in just 10 days of its premiere.
