As part of its objective to educate and empower women and non-binary people to benefit from Web3 technology and cryptocurrencies, Mastercard brings The Belle Block™ to Mexico, a community launched in June 2022, which seeks to bring the benefits of new technologies to groups that face a greater technological lag. Her arrival in the country occurs in association with WAGMI LatAm, an education initiative aimed at incorporating 5 million Latina women to Web3 by 2030.
For Mastercard, technology has the ability to build a more inclusive future for everyone, especially women. In this sense, the collaboration with WAGMI LatAm focuses on complying with key fundamentals that allow their empowerment and participation in the business field: business growth, education, leadership, legal defense and regulations, and entrepreneurship.
Thanks to Web 3, we find ourselves before a world of possibilities capable of offering great benefits by transforming the way in which we make payments. By bringing more people closer to this technology and the cryptocurrency industry, Mastercard is creating the necessary conditions so that more and more women can actively participate in the leadership of the world of means of payment.
The adoption of cryptocurrencies
The acceleration of digital payments drives interest in cryptocurrencies and 51% of consumers in the region have already made a transaction with crypto assets, while more than a third say they have made a payment for an everyday purchase with stablecoin, according to the New Payments Index 2022, a global survey of more than 35,000 consumers in 40 countries. This shows that financial innovation, which includes cryptocurrencies and the blockchain, generates interest among consumers, so an important step is to make them available to the entire population.
Likewise, the study reveals that 95% of Latin American women have heard of cryptocurrencies, but their current understanding of crypto and digital asset terminology is less solid than that of men, only 42% of women have knowledge compared to to 56% of men, so there is a clear opportunity to engage women through a platform to inform, exchange and educate, to help close this gender gap. In this sense, Mastercard seeks to design solutions to expand financial inclusion and strengthen alliances that guarantee digitization.
“At Mastercard we will continue to promote digitalization to bring relevant payment solutions to the market and thus have a positive impact on the advancement of women’s participation in the ecosystem of digital payment methods. Our efforts continue to focus on making technological innovation available to a greater number of people in order to build more efficient and inclusive systems for consumers and businesses,” said Isabel Villagómez, Director of Communication, Mastercard México.
The Belle Block™ partners with founders of education and collaboration groups like SheFi, HerHouse, Blu3 DAO and Boys Club to engage more women and develop products that empower women and other minorities. In Latin America and the Caribbean, the initiative has the support of WAGMI LatAm, a program that seeks to increase the participation of Latina women in the United States and Latin America in the Web3 world.
“WAGMI LATAM brings together more than 40 organizations in the United States and Latin America to ensure that Latin American women are co-creators and active participants in the evolution of the Web3 ecosystem, providing access to education, resources, and conducting research,” said Laura Navarro Muñoz. , HER DAO LATAM Governor and one of the founding members of the three organizations of WAGMI LATAM. “Based on our experience, community building and education will be key to achieving WAGMI LATAM’s goal of incorporating 5 million women into Web3 by 2030, and being able to work with Mastercard will help us achieve this goal” .
