“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, the first Marvel film to be released exclusively in theaters since the pandemic began, could not reach one of the most important markets in the world and other data that marketing specialists and Advertising must master before starting this Friday.
China without Shang-Chi
Marvel’s new film will not reach a key international market to be a box office success, becoming the first MCU film to not receive approval for distribution in China and the second to not be released in the country.
The reason? It would be related to the casting of the film and the perception of the plot. This will undoubtedly generate millions in losses because for years the eastern country has been the second most important box office for Marvel films, only behind the United States and Canada.
Despite the fact that Marvel director Kevin Feige has worked to eliminate any concerns about the depictions in the film, the country has considered that the comic on which “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” was based has racist elements and are full of reductionist stereotypes.
