Within the fighting genre, Marvel vs. Capcom has always been that strange crossover experiment that pitted characters from Capcom’s classic sagas, such as the protagonists of Street Fighter, against Marvel superheroes, such as Wolverine or Cyclops, among many others. A combination that turned out surprisingly well and managed to reconcile thousands of players throughout several installments, being Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes the most beloved of all, though been off all store listings for more than a decade.
Recently, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 starred in a social media campaign under the hashtag «# FREEMVC2»Promoted by several youtubers and influencers who clamor for the relaunch of this classic installment for modern gaming systems. Something that reached the ears of Mike Mika, head of Digital Eclipse, a studio that has previously worked with Disney and Capcom on the remastering of other classic games. Mika publicly supported the idea of bringing back Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and, now, through a new interview, ensures that there may be progress on the subject by both companies.
Through an interview with the YouTube channel of GamerHub TV, Mika assures that both Disney and Capcom, they saw the campaign on social media and would have talked about it. Which does not guarantee the return of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, would still have two problems to overcome. The first one, Mika explains, shouldn’t be a problem, since the rivalry of both companies for the creative direction it should have been in the past after so long. The real problem would be the rights of all characters that appear in the game.
At the moment there is no official news about the return of Marvel vs. Capcom, and either with a new main installment or the remastering of the classic Marvel v. Capcom 2, the most beloved installment of the series. We will have to wait a bit to see if the talks between the two companies come to fruition.
