He Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) It is not going through its best moment and now a serious controversy has been triggered with the premiere of the new Secret Invasion series. All after the production team decided to use a Artificial Intelligence (AI) to animate the intro sequence with the credits.
The reality is that the entire world is going through a serious fatigue phase of superhero-related films, series, and related products. There was an admirable and refreshing respite with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
But the reality is that, to a large extent, most viewers are somewhat tired of having to watch a lot of series and accessory productions to be able to understand the plot of films that look increasingly soulless, such as the third Ant-film. Man.
With the Marvel series on Disney Plus, the outlook is not more encouraging. It all started strong with WandaVision, but at this point most of the productions have felt rushed, filler and with few purposeful elements.
It is in this context that the first episode of the new Secret Invasion series, starring Samuel L. Jackson, has been released. Where fans were in for a twisted surprise upon seeing the intro.
The case of Secret Invasion and its strange intro animated by Artificial Intelligence
Secret Invasion’s introductory credits sequence immediately stands out for the quality of its visual art. It’s something that looks familiar, like we’ve seen it before somewhere else, but we couldn’t tell where. Until we remember all the images we’ve seen born of DALL-E, Midjourney and the like.
In an interview with Polygonseries director Ali Selim ended up accepting that the team used a generative AI model to create the art for the series’ opening credits.
The filmmaker said he “doesn’t really understand” how the AI works, but that didn’t matter much, as words were simply required for it to generate everything:
“We would talk to it (Artificial Intelligence) about ideas, topics and words, and then the computer would turn off and do something. And then we could change it a little bit using words, and it would change.”
In other words, the director made a series of prompts to the AI without having much idea that he was doing it and thus put together the intro of Secret Invasion. Which perfectly explains these results:
Such a situation has triggered the fury of some fans while the rest are rather confused about the quality of the sequence and how it ended up being authorized to be integrated into the final production of the series.
As far as the first episode is concerned, it is notorious that the director’s choice was not the best, although the cast gives everything they can to lift the story.
