Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 it seems that it marked the conclusion of the story that James Gunn wanted to tell in three films. In fact, this sequel serves as a farewell and the Guardians story could easily end now… Unless Marvel has other plans..
As it explains screen rant, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 is a possibility. Marvel Studios has shown its willingness to expand the trilogies into longer-running franchises as the Cinematic Universe (MCU) has developed, such as the cases of Thor, Captain America and Spider-Man.
Marvel has yet to officially announce that a sequel is in development, but if it does, it is certain that James Gunn will not direct the film because of his new position at DC Studios that does not allow him to work in the MCU.
With no official announcement regarding the film’s development, there is no set release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 4. The best possible scenario for a date is probably May 2027 for a hypothetical Phase 7.
Who would be the new Guardians of the Galaxy?
Zoe Saldaña as Gamora and Dave Bautista as Drax have already announced that they are not interested in returning. From the original team, the returns of Chris Pratt returning as Star-Lord, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel voicing Rocket and Groot are all very possible.
To them, after the events in Guardians 3, could join Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova) and, why not, Phyla-Vell, Moondragon and the expected Nova.
What the film would narrate is anyone’s guess, but if released after Avengers: Secret Wars, rather than a new beginning for the MCU, it would be a start over for the Guardians of the Galaxy and how they are coping with new members.
