The first chapter of Moon Knight is now available on Disney +, and it contains some surprises for fans
Marvel has released the first chapter of the Marvel Studios series, Moon Knight on the Disney + streaming platform on March 30. Series that introduces the comic book antihero to the MCU for the first time, perhaps with plans to head into an adaptation of Midnight’s Children, once they arrive Ghost Rider and Blade to this shared universe.
moon knight tells the story of Steven Grant, a kind gift shop clerk who suffers from memory loss and experiences flashbacks from another life. Steven discovers that he has dissociative identity disorder and that he shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge, he must grapple with the complexity of his identities while immersing himself in a deadly mystery that dwells among the mighty gods of Egypt.
You can read a comic for free with the first chapter of the series
The first chapter, as usual in each of the Marvel Studios projects, includes small easter eggs and references to the original material of its adaptations, and Moon Knight is no exception, however, in the new Disney + series, it includes a reward for the most insightful, since a link was hidden that allows you to enjoy the first comic for free with the first appearance of the character.
The scene in question is at the beginning of the chapter, when Steve arrives at the museum and explains the history of Egypt to a girl, and in it you can see a QR code next to a fire alarm. By scanning the code, he will take viewers to the Marvel.com website which features a digital copy of Moon Knight’s first appearance in Marvel Comics. You can read it at this link.
The site promises that viewers can “check weekly” more Moon Knight comics, though it’s unclear if they’ll be found at the same link or hidden behind more QR codes in later episodes.
This week’s free comic issue is Werewolf By Night (1972) #32which not only features Moon Knight but also the monster who will star in his own live-action Halloween special on Disney+ later this year.
Will we see the werewolf in Moon Knight?
Caballeo Luna made his comics debut in Werewolf by Night Nº32, making it the perfect choice to gift Disney+ viewers along with the premiere. With the promise of more hidden comics in future episodes, fans should expect these to continue to be key themes for both Moon Knight and the other characters in the series.
This week’s issue was almost certainly chosen due to it being the first appearance of the Fist of Vengeance, but there may be another hidden meaning here. The werewolf will make his MCU debut this year in Marvel Studios’ first Halloween special, which recently began filming; so maybe he can appear for the first time in the Moon Knight series, there was a scene in the trailers that pointed out that it was going to be like that, but after the premiere we could verify that it was an Egyptian jackal.
Will we have more free comics in future productions?
The inclusion of this easter egg focused on bringing viewers back to the comics is a very smart move on Marvel’s part. Given that superheroes are all the rage right now, it’s likely that Marvel wants to bring the MCU’s fanbase to the comics.
If the move succeeds with Moon Knight, there’s a good chance a similar tactic will be employed in future Marvel Studios series or movies.
You can watch the first episode of Moon Knight exclusively on Disney +, and a new chapter every Wednesday until May 4, the date on which the last chapter will be released and on which you can enjoy the entire series from then on.
