If something is standing out at this stage of Daredevil it’s Chip Zdarsky’s ability to surprise. Typhoid Mary joins Elektra, in this clip that she offers us Panini Comicswith the goal of protecting Wilson Fisk from Bullseye.
Two fight for the same goal
There’s nothing better than watching two contenders battle it out back to back against a situation that’s beyond them. We know that they will do well, we trust in a satisfactory and heroic result, even knowing the scars that such a battle will surely leave them. What amazes us is that sometimes these duos are not exactly what we expect to see, but who said fear. And if they are two protagonists as important at this stage as Elektra Natchios and María Typhoid, then all the better. But it can be overcome even more if both wear the Daredevil symbol on their chest.
All this motivated by the common enemy, that villain capable of getting even two adversaries to unite under a cause that motivates them more than their own usual confrontation, which allows them to put aside quarrels in the face of a greater objective. Bullseye is that threat. He has managed not only to maintain his status against Daredevil but also has fallen out with the Kingpin for a silly thing, that he cloned him in order to use him. Admit it, you too would have been pissed off enough, it would even have crossed your mind to get up from where you are quietly reading a comic as good as this to slap him. That the blood does not reach the river, this is a fictional story.
path of revenge
Compensating for an offense is a tortuous path that can bring difficulties, but if everything goes well for the aggrieved party, we are facing one of those sensations that is especially savored, like a good piece of meat prepared over a slow fire. Elektra Natchios was murdered during Frank Miller’s run at the hands of the biggest killer in urban comics, those featuring costumed vigilantes. Bullseye had no qualms about running her through with one of the current Daredevil’s sai so defeating him may provide the best of flavors.
Doing it while saving the lives of innocents to whom you manage to inspire courage even takes on a greater dimension, not only in terms of the drama that the scene breathes, but also everything that comes with having three rivals in front of you and coming out unscathed, with a little respite even. And to finish off the job, Matt even appears to offer a last scene that returns him to the Olympus of the heroes with the support even of those who not so long ago asked him to leave his place as Daredevil. You couldn’t ask for more from a 24-page staple.
Chip, hold on another couple of years
What Zdarsky has been doing with Murdock and company has not yet been recognized with an Eisner, despite the fact that nominations have not been lacking. It certainly deserves it, few writers can present a similar story in a superhero comic and round off issue after issue, one story arc after another. And we are not talking about a year of publications in the USA, they are neither more nor less than three, thirty-six numbers with which it has arrived in Spanish specialized bookstores in March. A bow to this man is more than justified and it seems that he has not yet finished his work with Daredevil, beyond The Devil’s Reign, which will arrive in April.
But the writer is not alone in all this and in the absence of Checchetto and without counting our beloved Jorge Fornés, the best substitute that the owner of this series has found has been his compatriot Stefano Landini with inks by Francesco Mobili. Both manage to maintain a dark atmosphere and provide a perfect theatricality to each scene, be it frantic or paused. The best Marvel collection, we don’t get tired of repeating it, you have to read these comics in whatever format. If you didn’t get to the staples you have the Marvel Premiere and it will arrive in hard cover with total security, it deserves it, as much as an Eisner.
