It was released globally on February 16. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the most recent film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU, for its acronym in English) and which marked the beginning of Phase 5 of it. However, a month earlier, some Internet users already knew a good part of his plot.
A report published on the website of Engadget account that a user named mssmods shared a Google Doc transcript of 63 pages of the film’s dialogue prior to its release on the Marvel Studios Spoilers subreddita community dedicated to the upcoming productions of the house of ideas.
Now, Disney wants to know who was behind the leak and is trying to force Reddit and Google to identify the person or group of people responsible..
As MSSmods is a shared account between MarvelStudiosSpoilers moderators, comply with the app would involve Reddit identifying more than one person.
In addition, Disney requested that Google and Reddit share any “identifying information” they have about MSSmods, including names, phone numbers, and IP addressesalong with details about any users who may have been involved in posting, editing, or uploading the leak.
torrentfreak was the first to report that Disney’s MVL Film Finance unit, a subsidiary the company established to support Marvel Studios productions, filed two Digital Age Copyright Act subpoena requestsdesigned to force these companies to identify who was behind the leak.
What did Reddit say about it?
A Reddit spokesperson spoke to Engadget about it, but did not confirm if it intends to comply with the app: “Reddit is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. We have rigorous processes in place to review legal requests and challenge them where appropriate”.
It’s unclear what Disney plans to do, if anything, regarding the source of the leak, which is possibly a subtitle provider or freelance translator.
The document that MSSmods shared was a translation of the Portuguese subtitles for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniawith some of the dialogue not presented in chronological order.
