mark zuckerbergCEO of Meta, recently announced through his Instagram account an exciting partnership between your company and the automobile manufacturer BMW. Both companies will work together to develop new augmented and virtual reality experiences that can be enjoyed while the car is in motion.
As it explains infobae, these new mixed reality experiences will work using the Meta Quest virtual reality headset. According to Zuckerberg, special functions are being developed that will allow objects to be anchored to the limits of closed environments in motionsuch as those found inside cars.
This capability was unattainable in previous versions of augmented and virtual reality headset software. The limitation was because the glasses use cameras and sensors to determine their precise location, so when users move their heads and explore their surroundings, the experience feels realistic. However, being in a moving car interfered with these sensors, making it difficult to recreate virtual reality.
Thanks to the collaboration with BMW, this hurdle has now been overcome and an experimental function has been developed that has not yet been released on the market. In a demo video shared by Zuckerberg, it was shown how this new feature can differentiate the vehicle’s surroundings, including objects that are closest or farthest from the car.
Principal functions
Among the outstanding functions, it was demonstrated the projection of virtual notes on the car windows, the ability to set up virtual meetings using Meta avatars, the projection of a miniature screen on the rear passenger seat, and the ability to play mini-games using this technology.
These tools will be available in both augmented reality and virtual reality, and the two companies are expected to continue collaborating to offer similar products in the future.
It is important to note that these advances do not imply that these features will be available anytime soon. The implementation of these features could take several months or even years, as it is necessary to ensure their security and usefulness for users.
