Mexico and the Republic of Korea celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations this 2022.
In 2018, the total trade between Mexico and Korea was 20.87 billion dollars.
Between 1999 and June 2019, Mexico received 6,512 million dollars from Korea.
Within the framework of the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Mexico and South Korea, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard, and his South Korean counterpart, Park Jin, promised this Monday in Seoul to continue strengthening those ties with the focus on restarting negotiations for the signing of a free trade agreement (FTA). Before that meeting, the Mexican diplomat traveled to the Korean city, for which he used the power of Twitter by writing a message on networks in full Korean where he showed his happiness for said meeting.
As one of its specific partners, Mexico has an extensive relationship with South Korea dating back to January 26, 1962. According to a document from the College of Mexico, Center for Asian and African Studies, The diplomatic relationship between both nations allows them to create agreements that help them facilitate the movement of people, capital and merchandise, in the first decade of the 21st century, maintaining an accelerated growth in exports and imports, which for Mexico has resulted in a growing trade deficit.

Likewise, the secretariat also records that there are more than two thousand companies in Mexico with South Korean investment in their social capital, among which brands such as: Samsung, LG, KORES, Kepco, KOGAS, Gossamer, hyundai Y Kia. That is why Korea is the twelfth source of investment for Mexico worldwide and the second in Asia, after Japan.

As a way of thanking and showing his happiness with the people and government of South Korea, the diplomat Marcelo Ebrard, used his Twitter account to share a message in Korean, marking a linguistic trend.
The Mexican who, before publishing the message, stated before international media that “the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations is the ideal moment for an exercise in profound reflection on what Mexico and Korea have achieved in the last six decades and what they can achieve in the next 60 years, under a long-term strategic vision”.
The message that draws attention on his Twitter account, where he has more than two billion followers, says: “I am very happy to have arrived in Korea, a good friend and partner of Mexico. This visit will have positive results for both countries.”
