The new generations have gradually become aware of the importance of being able to decide when to have a child; as part of the reproductive project. For this reason, male contraceptives come onto the scene, allowing men to participate more in family planning. Above all, because not all commitment should be unloaded on women; as; they for biological reasons must assume the role of pregnancy and childbirth.
It is real, that men start their sex life faster than women. Therefore, it is important that they seek reliable guidance and have information on contraceptive methods. Thus, in this way, the experience is enjoyed responsibly and unwanted pregnancies are avoided. But at the same time they protect themselves against sexually transmitted infections, especially by using barrier methods.
Male contraceptives are gaining popularity
Around the model that has been debated in recent years on gender equality and shared family responsibilities. Family planning is considered as a theme of two. Where contraceptive methods and products are presented for individuals to exercise sexual and reproductive rights, responsibly
- The barrier method of contraception used by men is the condom. In fact, it is very popular for having high protection against unwanted pregnancy. Since, it does not allow sperm to be deposited in the woman’s vagina. In addition, it is the only method that reduces the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.
- Likewise, we find spermicides, which are a chemical contraceptive method. That fulfills the function of altering the mobility of sperm, causing them to lose strength. Therefore, they fail to fertilize the eggs. However, despite its ease of application, it is not recommended as the only method, due to its limited effectiveness.2
- In this same way, Vasectomy appears, which is a definitive method. Where by means of a surgical intervention the vas deferens are separated; which are the channels responsible for carrying sperm from the testicles to the urethra. What makes the possibility of getting your partner pregnant does not exist.3
Science seeks new methods
For some years now, attempts have been made to develop new contraceptive methods adapted to men; especially so that they increase their participation in family planning and take control of their sexuality. This is where an oral supplementation of hormones appears that suppress spermatogenesis and testosterone production; recommended by few doctors.
Similarly, experimental methods are emerging, which are not yet available on the market. As an injectable synthetic hydrogel, which is applied in the duct through which the sperm passes, making a filtering effect; slowing the passage of sperm. At the same time, a synthetic estrogen arises that spreads on the chest and shoulder blades, with an anti-androgenic result, which weakens the efficiency of the sperm.Four. Five.
We can say that male contraceptives are the best method to avoid an unwanted pregnancy, in addition to minimizing the risks of infections. But, as we see, research does not slow down and, on the contrary, new alternatives come to light; like synthetic gels; that avoid using hormones, avoiding adverse effects on the male body. At the same time, they seek to increase effectiveness.
