After ‘Your name’ and ‘Time with you’, fans of makoto shinkai They had been waiting for the Japanese director’s next job for some time. Although the project has been hard to get, we finally have a first look at his new movie, ‘Suzume no Tojimari’.
Everyday life and a journey full of adventures
The anime film focuses on Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who lives in a very quiet town in the Kyushu region. One day, Suzume meets a young man who is looking for a door, and the two of them end up finding an old door in an abandoned house. Suddenly, Suzume feels like something is dragging her towards the door and she is sucked inside it.
From this event, the so-called “Doors of Disaster” begin to appear throughout Japan linked to a series of disasters and misfortunes. To prevent further misfortune from happening, Suzume embarks on a journey across the country with the goal of closing all doors.
Shinkai and his team started working on ‘Suzume no Tojimari’ back in January 2020 and to develop the script in April of that same year. The director has confirmed that the pandemic did not affect the production of the film too much, but he has said that “the tone of these times is indelibly engraved in the script” and that there will be “post-apocalyptic themes”.
In addition to the first teaser trailer, a new full poster has also been revealed in which we can see Suzume and the release date of the film is confirmed for November 11 of this year. In principle, this release date is only for Japan, so it’s still time to cross your fingers so that international distribution doesn’t take too long.
‘Suzume no Tojimari’ is produced from CoMix Wave Films, who have also animated the previous works of the director. The anime film also features Masayoshi Tanaka as a character designer Kenichi Tsuchiya as animation director and Takumi Tanji as art director.
