Mahindra has unveiled its new SUV. The Mahindra XUV700 bursts onto the scene with the aim of ushering in a new era for this very important Indian car brand. An SUV loaded with technology, a distinctive design and numerous features to be a benchmark in its competitive category.
Mahindra’s new SUV is already a reality. The new Mahindra XUV700, a very interesting medium-sized SUV that is set to play a leading role in the home market of the Indian brand. The new XUV700 hits the market to take the place of the veteran Mahindra XUV500, a model that once stood as a central pillar of the range and is now on its way out.
At the beginning of the development process of the new XUV700, there was speculation that both commercial names would remain in the portfolio. Finally it will not be like that and the new SUV of the Indian company will be available in 5 and 7 seater versions. Due to the possibility of having a third row of seats, the number of rivals you will have to face is important. MG Hector, Skoda Kushaq, KIA Seltos and Tata Safari are some of them.
The design of the new Mahindra XUV700
The entry into the scene of this new model means the materialization of the new logo of Mahindra. The XUV700 sports the new design language which will be progressively transferred to the rest of the company’s models. That is why, to some extent, this new model marks the beginning of a new era for Mahindra, one of the leading Indian car brands.
It is at the front where this adoption of the new design language becomes evident. Elements such as the grill or the light clusters with LED technology and in the shape of the letter C are decisive. The side view conveys great fluidity thanks, to some extent, to details like the door handles that are fully flush with the door panels. At the rear, the roof spoiler and the wraparound lights are, together with the bumper, the most characteristic features of this area of the exterior.
Leaving aside the outside, if we venture into the interior of the new XUV700 we will be surrounded by a digital and connected environment. The technological equipment is solvent. The most complete versions boast of two 10.25-inch screens. One touch screen for the infotainment system and the other for the instrument panel.
The list of driving assistance systems it is equally wide. Among other technologies, it can equip adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and high-beam assistant. It also has up to seven airbags and a 360º vision system.
For the development, the new W601 platform has been taken as a starting point. Despite being able to have a seven-seater interior, the dimensions are not excessively large.

On a mechanical level, the new XUV700 bets on both diesel and gasoline. The engine range is made up of various engines. On the one hand we have a mStallion 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that develops a power of 200 hp and 380 Nm of maximum torque. And on the other hand, there is a mHawk 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine available in two power levels: 155 hp and 360 Nm Y 185 hp and 420 Nm respectively.
As standard, the new XUV700 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and a front-wheel drive system. However, as an option, and depending on the engine, you can opt for an automatic transmission with the same number of ratios and an all-wheel drive system. Through a driving mode selector you can choose between different profiles to adapt the vehicle’s response to all kinds of situations.
The new XUV700 is now on sale in India. The range will be completed in the last quarter of this year. The starting price for the most basic version is approximately € 14,000.
