Located in the middle of the Atlantic, Madeira is one of those paradisiacal islands that find one of its best virtues in its explosive nature. Some even call it the “Hawaii of the Atlantic”, but it is much more.
This Portuguese island of impressive landscapes and postcard cliffs, has two of the best beaches in Europe (the beach of Porto Santo and the beach of Seixal) and is known for its gastronomy and its hiking trails, in addition to having been chosen once again as the best island destination in the world.
This Portuguese island is always a sum and continues because in June they start the summer with the Atlantic Festivala show in which music and pyrotechnics come together to offer a unique experience in Madeira.
The Atlantic Festival in Madeira
In June, the Fiestas de los Santos Populares take place, a festival related to the summer solstice, which in Madeira is worshiped by three saints (San Antonio, San Juan and San Pedro), and takes place on Rua de Figueira Preta, Travessa dos Reis, Rua da Conceição and Praça do Carmo, but also takes place the so-called Atlantic Festival, as explained on the Madeira Tourism website.
This Atlantic Festival marks the start of the summer season in Madeira and will take place in 2022 on June 4, 11, 18 and 25. Throughout the month there are different cultural experiences, although the highlights are the pyromusical shows, the Raíces del Atlántico Festival and the Regional Arts Week.
At 10:30 p.m., the outer dock of Pontinha dresses up for a party with a music show and fireworks in the sea, which is a delight for the senses.
Also in June, music is lived more with the Raíces del Atlántico Festival, an event lasting three days that fuses genres, sounds and new musical trends. It is the oldest music festival in Portugal and is completely free in which artists such as Rosa Soares (Brazil), the Víctor Jara Brigade (Portugal), Lura (Cape Verde) or Xarabanda (Madeira).
In addition to music, Madeira is filled with art with Regional Arts Week that showcases the artistic skills of Madeiran students in different fields, and allows tourists and residents to learn more about the culture of the island.
How to get around and where to stay in Madeira
If we want to enjoy this cultural festival in a paradisiacal destination in June, the flights are very cheap and we have them from 115 euros (making a stopover in Lisbon) if we leave from Madrid.

Being an island with so much to see, the ideal is that we rent a car and move around with it (we have cars from 64 euros per day), and we stay in Funchal, the capital, from where we can travel around the island comfortably by car and plan a different excursion every day.
