Macross It is without a doubt one of the most important anime in modern history. A source of influence for countless works of the 21st century and a cornerstone of the Japanese animation industry.
On this side of the world, the vast majority of us knew about this franchise under the name of robotech, that strange assembly of three animations that Harmony Gold put together under the paranoia of censorship radars, leaving a strange, disparate work that was still very popular in Latin America.
Then, over the years, at the end of the 90s and the following decade, the strength, popularity and significance of Macross was more than proven. Generating in this period an important range of series, sleeves, video games and collectible products.
The truth, however, is that for the last 10 years the franchise had looked relatively subdued, counting only the premiere of Macross Delta in 2016 as the last moment in which it generated great noise.
But that is about to change, since now, out of nowhere, in an absolutely surprising movement, the future premiere of a new anime of this intellectual property has been announced that seems to be destined (or forced) to bring this saga to the lands of the relevance.
Macross returns with new anime and this is all we know
As reported by colleagues from comicbook.com The unexpected announcement of the return of Macross with a new anime was made during the last concert performance of Walküre FINAL LIVE TOUR 2023 ~Last Mission~a live musical project that in recent times had become the latest official product of the franchise.
The Sunrise company confirmed there at the end that it is working on a new Macross animated project, everything indicates that it would be an anime in 2D, 3D or what else, since given the background of the concert and other previous products, there is no certainty about the actual final format of the project.
For now, it is worth reviewing the official synopsis of Macross, which describes the starting point of the first saga, which is always essential to know to take the thread of all its derivative animes:
“2009. Ten years of furious conflict and frantic construction have turned an alien wreck into a human triumph: the colossal space battleship Macross.
On the day of the ship’s launch, the world awaits with bated breath to witness humanity’s next great leap. Floating above the planet, through the Zentradi, a ruthless warrior race seeks to further their agenda of destruction and conquest.
When inactive systems aboard the Macross suddenly fire up on the alien fleet, the ship destined to preserve humanity may become its undoing. A war of attrition breaks out.
Taking humanity across the solar system and beyond in a fight to justify its existence!
The last time we heard of any new product about the franchise apart from the concert was in the fall of 2021, with Macross Frontier, a project made up of a feature film and a short film that did not make much noise beyond Japan.
