A new triumph was scored for Chilean cinema at the Cannes Film Festival. The film “Los Colonos” by director Felipe Gálvez won the “Un certain mirada” award from the prestigious International Federation of Film Press (FIPRESCI).
This film is a historical fiction that takes place at the beginning of the 20th century in Tierra del Fuego, and portrays the colonization of Patagonia and the terrible genocide of the Selk’nam indigenous people.

The check CinemaChile collected the words of the jurors at the time of awarding the prize, who affirmed that they chose her as the winner due to “its skillful storytelling, which sheds light on significant sociopolitical conflicts and often overlooked inherent in the history of Latin American colonization, and his distinctive approach to the subject through his cinematic style.”
