It is neither more nor less than the main theme of the new MCU film, written by the famous singer from Barbados, in collaboration with her Nigerian counterpart. Itemsthe Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Goransson —also responsible for the soundtrack— and the director Ryan Coogler.
The song ‘Lift Me Up’ was conceived as a tribute to Chadwick Bosemaninterpreter of T’Challa in the first film Black Panther, and who sadly died in 2020 at the age of 43, a victim of colon cancer. Certainly the melody is in tune with the theme of loss and mourning that permeates Wakanda Forever and that has been so applauded in the first reactions of the sequel.
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the movie and song, I wanted to write something that portrayed a warm hug from all the people I’ve lost in my life,” Tems said in a statement (via Billboard). “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me, so to hear her stream this song is such an honor.”
‘Lift Me Up’, Rihanna’s surprise musical return, will be part of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired Bythe upcoming album soundtrack of the movie. It will be released on November 4, 2022, courtesy of Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings and Hollywood Records.
The publication of the single, this October 28, was carried out by Westbury Road, the record label of the nine-time Grammy-winning singer.
