Foldable cell phones are something that is very attractive, due to their futuristic design; However, they are also difficult gadgets to make, as their screens have durability versus flexibility issues, not to mention that most of them have an annoying crease where the screen bends.
To solve these types of issues, LG has developed a new material, called “Real Folding Window”, which consists of a protective cover that is located in the upper part of the screen.
According to the South Korean firm, this new material it is as strong as glass and, at the same time, as flexible as plastic. Thanks to this, the appearance of cracks with use is minimized, as well as those undesirable wrinkles that remain in the part where the screens are folded.
To build this roof, a special coating was added on top of a thin plastic film of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). LG claims that this material is stronger and more flexible than currently available options for folding devices, such as polyimide films and tempered glass-based solutions.
In addition, it ensures that your new protective cover maintains its shape even after being folded and unfolded more than 200 thousand times, which would be equivalent to about five years of use.
LG’s “Real Folding Window” technology can be used both in smartphones whose screen folds inwards – such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, for example – and in those with a folding panel outwards.
