As is known, the FPF assures that it owns the audiovisual rights of all the championships it organizes, such as Liga 1. In this sense, it partnered with the company 1190 Sports to market the TV rights and both created the Liga 1 channel. MAX, which is the signal through which the vast majority of commitments have been transmitted, including those of Alianza Lima, Melgar, Cienciano and Binacional. What is controversial is that these clubs, whose intention was to defend their new contracts with the Consortium and showed a position contrary to the Federation, were forced to allow the entry of the new operator’s cameras to avoid a second WO
Under this premise, 1190 Sports has 15 League 1 clubs in the bag, with the exception of Universitario, Sport Boys, Municipal and Carlos Mannucci, who still have a current contract with the Consortium after 2022, the year in which the FPF set as a limit to recover the TV rights that had previously been assigned to the clubs. For this reason, their home matches have been broadcast this year by the GolPerú signal and will continue to broadcast them in the same way. Of course, the condition was that, once that contract expired, the four clubs will become part of 1190 Sports.
But the discussion revolves around the opposition clubs. It happens that the matches of Alianza Lima, Melgar, Cienciano and Binacional had been broadcast by Liga 1 MAX; However, as a result of the revocation of the precautionary measure that favored the FPF, they have a free letter to allow the entry of the GolPerú cameras, because their contracts are no longer suspended under judicial resolution. Then, the Consortium would not only have the exclusivity of the four previous clubs (Universitario, Boys, Municipal and Mannucci), but would add four more to its bag. That is to say, the parties of Alianza and the ‘U’ would be transmitted by this signal.
Who wins and who loses?
Undoubtedly, the great beneficiary after the resolution of the Judiciary is the Consortium, because it has the green light to execute the new contracts it signed with Alianza, Melgar, Cienciano and Binacional. What’s more, its intention is to transmit the next matches that these clubs play at home through the GolPerú signal. However, there is another problem, since -according to the regulation change that the FPF promoted months ago- the clubs are obliged to allow the entry of the Liga 1 MAX cameras for the transmission of their commitments. If that does not happen, according to the new provisions, the match is rescheduled and, if the case occurs again, a walkover is declared. As is known, the opposition clubs already have a WO and receiving the second would mean their automatic relegation to League 2.
In this sense, from a sports point of view, Alianza and the rest of the opposition clubs must comply with the regulations and authorize the entry of Liga 1 MAX; but, from the judicial point of view, nothing prevents the Consortium from entering its cameras to broadcast those matches, because the precautionary measure has already been annulled and the new contracts allow it. Seen from this angle, the clubs affected are between their backs and the wall, because they could receive sanctions or punishment from both sides. However, there is also the possibility that their matches will end up being watched through the signal of the two channels that broadcast Betsson League 1: Liga 1 MAX and GolPerú. Where will it all end?
