According to local sources, on December 13, lawyers for crypto executive Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) have applied for bail in a Bahamas magistrate court following his arrest on December 12 pending extradition request for part of the US authorities. The move comes after Chief Justice JoyAnn Ferguson-Pratt declared today that Bankman.Fried was entitled to apply for bail.
In support of the request, Bankman-Fried’s defense attorney alleged that the 30-year-old executive suffered from “depression” and “insomnia,” had no criminal record, and did not flee the Bahamas despite having “ample opportunity” to do so. Lawyers representing Bankman-Fried also asserted that his client has not been taking any medications, including “Adderall” and “antidepressants” since his arrest. The lawyers also said that SBF is not opposed to electronic surveillance or reporting to a local police station if bail is granted.
Update Dec 13 20:05pm UTC: Bankman-Fried’s lawyer has requested that the bail be set at USD 250,000 (Note: the Bahamian dollar is pegged 1 to 1 to the US dollar).
