In an interview with The Wall Street JournalLauren Sanchez revealed that she wanted to fly previous missions and Bezos has now encouraged her and is delighted to reunite the female crew.
Sánchez does not say who the five women who will join her are, something that will be revealed closer to the flight planned for early 2024: “It will be women who will make a difference in the world and have an impact and a message to send”.
Will Jeff Bezos accompany his partner?
Sánchez told TWSJ that Bezos will not have an exception to attend his flight: “VI’m going to have to contain it. He’ll be cheering us all on from the sidelines”.
Until now, Blue Origin’s manned missions have been, to all intents and purposes, recreational flights. The private space company founded by Jeff Bezos has also carried out missions for NASA that include the acquisition of scientific equipment.
Blue Origin has launched four manned missions into space since July 20, 2021. New Shepard’s first flight carried Bezos himself along with his brother and two other people. Subsequent missions took Star Trek actor William Shatner into space, followed by another with former NFL player Michael Strahan and others, including paying customers.
