The new Land Rover Defender 130 has debuted. Land Rover has unveiled the long-awaited body variant of its iconic off-roader. A variant that provides a plus of practicality thanks to the fact that the interior and cargo space has been enlarged. A model that boasts, in addition to design, off-road capabilities and technological equipment.
The wait is over. The new Land Rover Defender 130 has been presented in society. The Defender range welcomes a new extended body variant that stands out for offering a more spacious interior with up to three rows of seats. An alternative that, although more practical, keeps intact the off-road capabilities that characterize the model of land rover.
The new Defender 130 is quickly recognizable. And it is that, although it has a very close relationship with the current Defender 90 and 110, the British manufacturer has chosen to provide it with specific finishes and equipment options. Let’s go into detail and review all the main keys of a model that is already for sale in the Spanish market.
The exterior design of the new Land Rover Defender 130
Just take a quick look at the images that accompany this article to discover the most characteristic features of the new Defender 130. It does not present great surprises or radical changes with respect to the rest of the variants that make up the offer. Logically, changes in the dimensions of the vehicle have direct effects on the exterior assembly. Especially for the 340mm extension of the iconic silhouette.
The rear overhang has been enlarged to increase the interior space of the third row of seats and the cargo area. Land Rover has taken advantage of the launch of the new Defender 130 to incorporate a new Sedona Red exterior color option, exclusive to this variant. In addition, it incorporates as part of the standard equipment a second sunroof over the third row.
Land Rover designers have made a subtle modification to the rear, raising the rear slightly in order to maximize off-road capability and offer a departure angle of 28.5º. The contour of the rear lights, which make use of LED technology, has been redesigned to maintain the exclusive lines that define the side profile of the vehicle. Access to the cargo area has not changed. And by the way, we have Narvik Black roof rails as standard. The level of customization is solvent, being able to opt for different body colors, wheel designs and optional packages such as the Extended Bright Pack.

Leaving aside the outside, if we go into the interior of the new Defender 130 we will quickly be enveloped by a warm, comfortable and luxurious atmosphere. The British manufacturer has dedicated numerous resources to increase the options of colors and materials to offer a more refined experience. The rear has been enlarged to comfortably accommodate passengers in the third row of seats. This is the primary key.
The third row is wide enough to offer seating for three adult passengers. This allows carry up to eight passengers. For the occupants of the third row seats there is a whole series of equipment designed to offer a more comfortable travel experience. Heated seats, padded armrests, dedicated storage, USB Type-C sockets for charging devices, and the aforementioned panoramic sunroof. All rows of seats incorporate ventilation and the climate control system is configurable for four zones.
Access to the third row seats is, according to Land Rover, comfortable. The second row slides forward and folds flat for wide access. It should also be noted that the families will be able to use the ISOFIX child seat mechanisms in up to five of the passenger seats, in the outer seats and the second and third rows, as well as in the front passenger seat.
As far as cargo space is concerned, the boot of the new Defender 130 packs a load volume of 389 liters when all seats are in use. The five-seat version, with the second row of seats folded, the cargo volume increases to 2,516 liters respectively.

To ensure high indoor air quality, the Defender 130 has an air purification system. A system also included in the standard equipment. It is combined with dual NanoeTM X technology, which reduces allergens and kills pathogens to help reduce unpleasant odors and viruses. PM2.5 cabin air filtration system and CO2 control improve air quality.
The engines of the new Land Rover Defender 130
In the mechanical section we find that the new Defender 130 is committed to electrification although at a low level. The range of engines is made up of a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine developing 400 hp and 550 Nm of maximum torque. There’s also a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine with 250 hp and 600 Nm respectively.
Both motors are electrified with 48-volt mild hybrid (MHEV) technology. Both are associated with a eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox and a system of smart all wheel drive (iAWD). By the way, all Defender 130s feature electronic air suspension with Adaptive Dynamics and the advanced Terrain Response system. The towing capacity reaches 3,000 kilograms.
Launch date and prices of the new Land Rover Defender 130
When will it hit the market? The marketing of the new Defender 130 has begun. It is already on sale in Spain. The starting price is set at €100,450. The first deliveries will take place, predictably, before the end of this year. The Defender 130 range is made up of the SE, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE and X trim levels. In addition, its commercial launch will be celebrated with the special edition First Edition.
