Lamborghini continues to advance in the feasibility study of its LMDh program and its implementation seems increasingly close to the shadow of the projects of other Volkswagen Group brands such as Audi and Porsche. In this regard, Giorgio Sanna, director of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, has dropped that, if the project is finally executed, Lamborghini’s LMDh prototype would not be available until the 2024 season of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the WEC, since the objective of the Italian brand, if necessary, would be to compete in both competitions.
When explaining the position of the Italian manufacturer and about its participation in the working group that has shaped the LMDh regulation, Giorgio sanna has assured: «Even from the perspective of a LMDh program under a ‘careers-client’ approach, we are facing a completely different effort than the one we have with our GT3 project. This is not just a decision of the ‘Customer Racing’ department. This is a business decision. For this reason, we are taking the necessary time to make the right decision and link it to the company’s strategy. That is something we are discussing in this period.».
